Electric vs Gas Cooker

For cooking a delicious food, what you need is, good quality fresh ingredients and cooking skills. But it is not only that. One more basic thing to cook a delicious food, is to have a good cooker and kitchen equipment too. Many people wonder if they should prefer gas cooker or electric cooker. Let’s make a comparison and see the advantages and disadvantages of each one and then it’s up to you to decide.

Heating and cooking

The greatest advantage of gas stoves is that they have more accurate and stable temprature than electric stoves. They also heat and change temprature instantly and not gradually like electric ones. Furthermore the electric stove and the pot must be completely flat to pass the heat on the pot and the food. Sometimes they are not and one part of the pot is hotter than an other one. As a result, it is easier to make uniform cooking using gas. Many people overcook or undercook food using electric stove. Of course it also depends on the quality of the electric cooker and the pots.

Ease to use and install

Electric kitchen are very easy to use and install. They are just plug and play. Gas is not so simple, except it is a small gas cooking unit. Especially if you want to use natural gas supply then you have to make special house installations. Also unless it is not new technology gas cooker it is more difficult to ignite the fire. Modern ones have electronic ignition.

Safety

All new technology and good quality cookers have high safety standards and are really safe to use either they are electric or gas. Anyway , I consider using electric cooker the possibilities of an accident is even smaller cause fire is fire. If the gas stove is old technology , it is a bit more dangerous especially for old people and children. After cooking you should allways turn the gas supply off, especially if you have children.

Cost

The price level to buy an electric or a gas cooker is allmost equal. Homebase electric cookers usually cost about 160 – 700 GBP according to the features and quality. How much electricity they use, depends on the energy class. An A+ energy class cooker spends quite less comparing to a C class. The price for a non professional gas cooker is also about 200 – 700 GBP. If you have natural gas installation the cost of using is quite less than electric one, but if you do not, then you will have to pay 300 – 1000 GBP for the installation.

So , what to choose? Difficult to decide. If there is natural gas installation at your house and you like cooking, maybe gas cooker would be a better choice. If you do not cook often and want something easy and simple, maybe electric cooker would be better. But whatever you choose, pat attention to have safety standards.
